Has wedding season started to kick your trash? Are those wedding edits starting to pile up? How about those client emails, social media, blog, etc… ?? It’s so easy to get the burnout exhausted feeling during this time So, how do you avoid this and stay ahead of that burnout moment?
Well, first off, you need to take care of you! No seriously! I’m going to say it again, You NEED to take care of you! If you have one of those days where you want to curl up in a ball and hide from the world and all of those emails, it’s probably a sign that you haven’t given yourself enough time to just refresh.
It’s so easy to let our business take over our life and start to run us. Isn’t that the exact opposite of what we dreamed of when starting our own businesses? I’ve found that it’s essential for me to take a day or even a half day every couple of weeks where I don’t need to do anything work related and can focus solely on me. Lunch with a girlfriend or my amazing Mom has always been my go to for sure! This wasn’t always easy for me to do. In fact, I still have to tell myself that it’s going to benefit me, my family, and my business if I do so and I do NOT need to feel guilty for taking some time to myself! So, I’m giving you permission to do the same! You need this! P.S. you can thank me later 😉
Second thing to do to avoid burnout is look at areas of your business that you can start outsourcing. Obviously, I’m a huge advocate of outsourcing your editing. It’s why I do what I do. I love hearing our clients tell me how invaluable it is to have their personal one-on-one editor and that they couldn’t imagine going back to all of those hours in front of the computer editing again. Can you imagine what it would be like freeing up all of those editing hours?! It is PRICELESS! More time for your family, for you, for your clients, that growing list of business to do’s, personal life again, and the most exciting…, the ability to make more money by taking on more clients and do what you love, shooting those weddings!
Other ways to outsource could be your bookkeeping, virtual assistant, or even a social media helper! I outsource my bookkeeping to my favorite person, AKA my husband, but there are accountants who do this for you and can save you a lot of headache for sure! I would also love a virtual assistant to help me with all of my daily tasks…it’s definitely on my list of wants!
Another thing to think about is outsourcing non-business items that always seem to pile up…like laundry, house cleaning, and grocery shopping. You guys, my life changed about a year ago when I discovered online grocery shopping! I use Walmart online grocery and I have been REALLY happy with them and this service! Not to mention it’s FREE and they are not allowed to except a tip either, so it really is FREE! (As long as you don’t need it within an hour.) So, I grocery shop the night before on their app and reserve my pick up time and they literally load in all of my groceries the next day. It’s pure magic I tell ya! It’s saved me more times than I can count and is currently the only way I grocery shop! Also, when I’m in a pinch I will pay the extra $10 fee to have it delivered to my door!
My last tip is it might be helpful to find a program like Honeybook or Dubsado, or 17 Hats that helps with general organization of clients, contracts, invoicing… It’s always good to have a management system in place to not only keep you organized, but on task. Having it all in one place helps free up that time I keep mentioning. 🙂 It’s valuable stuff, that time!
Overall, it’s time to really evaluate where you can free up your valuable time and start breathing fresh life and excitement into your business again! It will be so liberating and will result in a much better-run business and a happier you!
