Hey photographer! When was the last time you wrote a blog? Lately, I have been seeing so many photographers and business owners sleep on blogging because they believe that nothing will ever compete with the demand of social media. While, yes, social media is the primary way to market your business for free, that doesn’t mean that blogging doesn’t have massive capability to drive online traffic to your business. That being said, the nature of blogs looks a lot different than it did in 2008.
Blogging used to mean that you were sitting at your computer for hours a day writing out long-winded articles. A concept that was quickly replaced by Instagram stories, vlogs, and now TikTok. However, blogging didn’t just go away, it simply evolved. It actually turned into a highly valuable tool for anyone who has an online business.
Blogs nowadays (in 2022) are primarily meant to be SEO drivers. They are also a way to have evergreen content that educates and serves your ideal clients. It’s a one-and-done process, but a well-written, strategic blog can drive traffic to your brand for YEARS. This is why you need to have these 4 specific types of blogs living on your website that are purely designed to reinforce your brand message, inform and connect with your ideal client, and foundationally support your business.
This is your chance to fully develop your brand origin story and have it continuously serve you over and over again. Take a lot of time on this and make sure that this story fully represents who you are as a professional and the beliefs that your business is built upon. Most of the time people don’t want to work with you because of what you can do, they care about who you are. Take this opportunity to show them exactly that. Also, keep in mind that this blog post can act as an outline for many other pieces of content in the future, so take the extra time on it!
This is how you’re going to attract the kind of clients that are looking for your services. In this post you want to talk about your niche and the kind of photography that you do, but in a way that positions you as an authority figure. You also want to throw in a lot of keywords and searchable phrases to utilize that SEO aspect.
Here are some ideas for different photography niches:
This is how you’re going to attract clients from your surrounding area. Getting virtual traffic is great, but as a photographer, you need those clients who are actually going to book your services. This also lets people know right away where you’re located and how they can work with you. In these posts, you can talk about your favorite locations for shoots, the best wedding venues based on views, the best places in town to shop for family photoshoot outfits, etc. All of these will drive SEO traffic with people from your surrounding area. Just make sure you’re implementing those keywords.
For your last blog post, you want to showcase what it’s like to work with you specifically. You can do this by talking about a client experience, or a personal experience of something you did while on the job. This is where you really want to get into storytelling mode and try to write this post from the perspective of your ideal client. What kind of information would they want to know? What details would be pertinent to them? These are the posts that convert, so really give it your all here.
With these 4 blog posts, you will have highly valuable, highly converting pieces of content that will always serve as foundational tools to support your brand. The best part about them is that you write them once and they will bring new clients and convert on your behalf over and over again. Blogs also have an infinitely long shelf-life. If you’re a photographer, stop sleeping on blogging and use these 4 posts within your business today!
