How to reset and align yourself with success in the new year

It’s that time of year when everyone is heading back to the gym after the holidays, making resolutions, and shouting from the rooftops, “New Year, New Me!”. If you’re anything like me, this can be a bit overwhelming, which is why today I am sharing 3 tips for resetting and realigning yourself with optimal success in the new year — in business and within yourself.

Don’t dwell on last year’s mistakes/shortcomings — forgive yourself and move on

Your mindset is everything when it comes to business and the trajectory of your growth and one of the worst things you can do is dwell on past mistakes and/or shortcomings. Doing so will not only keep your mindset ruminating in a “stuck” place, but it will hinder your ability to trust yourself. The thing is, we are learning all of the time. Having a business means that you are going to try different things, the landscape will change, and circumstances will come up, and it is all a matter of trial and error. Sometimes we make the right decision, and sometimes we don’t. Either way, it’s all data and information to help us keep moving forward.

Don’t go into this season in fear of failing or messing up some way in your business. I encourage you to be thankful for what has passed and take your knowledge and experience into this new year, stronger than ever.

Set goals based on feelings rather than achievements.

As entrepreneurs, we tend to get really wrapped up in the numbers. We want to book “x” many shoots and make “x” amount of dollars every month, and if we don’t hit these goals we feel like we’ve failed. There is a lot I could go into on goal setting, but one of the things I do that has proven to be successful is focusing on how I want my business to feel. I want to feel secure, confident, excited, passionate, free — whatever identifies with you. From there, I find that the practical goals follow suit. When I desire to feel secure, I bring in more money through bookings. When I feel burnt out and need a break, I come up with ideas for building funnels into my business that work in the background of my life. Focusing on the feeling not only makes you the priority but opens your mind to more possibilities and ways of thinking.

Always come back to your why

Life gets busy, we get distracted, and then another year goes by and we wonder where all the time went. How I combat this, is I always come back to my “why”. Why am I doing all of this work? Why did I want to start my business in the first place? Who am I creating this future for? Why must I not give up on myself? Whether you write this out in a journal every day, have it hanging on your wall in your office, or set it as a reminder on your phone — that core message will fuel your fire more than anything else.

With these practices, you will find that your stamina for change and growth will endure far longer than Q1. Don’t get overwhelmed with the “new year, new me” hype, and give yourself the tools to reset and align yourself with the business that’s right for YOU.
